jawoodruff Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 There's a bit of a difference between this sonata and my previous two. For starters, this is probably a more serious attempt at the genre. I've never been a good person to describe my works in non-abstract terms. It is safe to note, though, that various parts of the piece explore septal and quintal harmony as well as a juxtaposition of whole tone tonality amid heavy chromaticism. That said, as I mentioned above, this work definitely seems like a strong development in my overall compositional ability. I'm not sure if there is a bit of maturation occurring or what -I'd be interested in everyone's thoughts! Hope you enjoy! J.Santos Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 I'm not a great fan of this style, and my knowledge is even lesser, but I can see that you made a great job. I liked the character of the presto, remembered me of Stravinsky + Quote

At any rate, glad you enjoyed it! 1 Quote
maestrowick Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Style-wise, very Stravinsky. Still, very put well together. Strong composing sir! 1 Quote

I've listened to a bit of Prokofiev, Stravinsky, and Shostakovitch the last week. I can see the connection to that particular group within the piece. Glad you liked it. 8 hours ago, maestrowick said: I loved it although this isn't my style. It is well-crafted! Can't wait for the next piece!! Should I take the fact you reviewed twice as a sign you really did enjoy this piece?!? If so, I feel honored that a peer of your caliber likes my compositions. 🙂 In terms of style, while I do tend to levitate more toward chromatic/dissonant harmonic choices, I attempt to present my ideas in ways that are palatable to the ear. I love modern classical -but some pieces -I concede- are very hard to digest (and thus relegated to never being performed). I don't want the same with my work. So, I take a more proactive approach. Glad you enjoy it. Quote
