I'm less sure about Bars 11-12 in the Courante. They seem a bit random, especially when both sides of them are legato. However, without them there might be no break from the flow... Great work! Quote

If I remember correctly, I did that to just develop the theme. This was some of the hardest development I've ever written. Harder than my balley Quote
Tónskáld Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 These are fabulous, and kudos for having them performed! They certainly deserved it. The only misgiving I have is that there were no fast movements. Unless the Gigue is supposed to be played faster and the performer just didn't...? Quote

You seem to provide enough interest -while at the same time respecting the roots of the traditional suite format. Very nice work. I second the comments above: I'd very much love to see more added to this. Did you base these off of the famous Bach Suite for Cello? 1 Quote

Absolutely, I'm using his movements as mu guide and following the rules of each dance. I'm about to write some suites during this time including another one for cello and several for harp Quote

Very glad to see that you've tried these dance forms out. Just a question: since you've stated that you composed this on the model of Bach's Solo Cello Suites, does that mean that you don't intend for these dances to actually sound dance-like? The Minuet actually sounds like it could be danced to, as does the Gigue. The Courante however sounds a bit languid for a Courante and should be in 3/4 time. That's really my only criticism. Maybe you could write a Sarabande, Bourree, or Gavotte also? It would be great to hear. Thanks for sharing! Quote
