Hugget Zukker Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 (edited) I was inspired by the sound and arrangement style of this album I found on YouTube called Sailing to the World. -- I may have ruined my presentation by linking to this comparison! I figured subdued dynamics and generous use of the sustain pedal were important to the sound I wanted. I also tried to add some moments of rhythmic fluidity. Do you think the ending is okay? I realize that the last chord may be a little sideways. I personally like it, but I also feel a little bit uncertain about it. Monarcheon Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 The last chord thing: it's a little bit strange to have both the flat and major seventh on a tonic tonality, but because of the unsettling atmosphere the ending before it provides I think it works rather well. Quote
PeterthePapercomPoser Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I didn't listen to the youtube video for fear of spoiling your composition! I really liked how you portray the rain with those dotted rhythms and triplets in the high piano. Nice sounding piano in the recording! You create a very relaxing soundscape and your harmonies are never dull. It's a very improvisatory style and there are certainly repeating motifs that you use. This piece proves that not every kind of music has to have a melodic phrase structure. Great job! Quote
