Eickso Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Hi everyone! This is going to be my first post on this site, and I would love to hear what people think of this piece. I wrote it between mid-March to mid-April, and it has formed into one of my favorite pieces. It is only one movement, which is why the official title is not going to be "Sonata." Yes, it is in sonata form, but I do not want to write any extra movements.Score.pdf On a side note, I genuinely have no idea how to engrave the score to look nicer. Any tips would be appreciated! aMusicComposer Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Sounds pretty good, well done. Some pointers: The demisemiquavers in the 1st theme sound like grace notes, rather than something important. You could mark them with accents so your performer knows not to skip over them. I like the changing time signatures, creates a sense of motion. "Like water" seems a bit vague. What are you looking for? The final chord in the cello is a bit awkward to perform. Good job overall! Quote
Sojar Voglar Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 It's a shame that you don't plan to continue this piece in more movements to make it a real sonata. This diatonic minimalism works perfectly since the duration is just right. Any longer and it would be like "when is it going to end already?". The end seems a bit hasty, a few more final chords would make it better. And I agree with previous comment, I am not sure about the final cello chord. Yet, Stravinsky's first chord in the violin concerto was also ankward at first, but there were two empty strings to help. Here there are none... Quote
