Maybe you're not in the right head space to submit a piece, sorry to hear of your loss. However, I've experienced a different type of loss with this pandemic, and it lead me back to this site and writing a piece in Sibelius for the first time in a few years. Just remember time heals all wounds, and I look forward to your return. What was once a great void in my life has turned to a fire I'm eager to share with you all. See you soon 1 Quote

Joshua Ng Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 Hi guys, sorry I may not able to complete in time, I shall give it my best shot. The piece that I was composing for this competition will be the final movement of my first string quartet. However, I have only sketched out the form and structure of the quartet and (just finished) the opening for an otherwise very virtuosic final movement. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to work on the movement earlier as I had to focus on my academics for the past month as the exams as very crucial to my future. (I need to score well to have options for choosing my subject combinations in Senior High and would probably determine my uni degree in the future, sort of like AP and elective classes in high school for the US) Hence, I had no time to really focus on composing over the past month, and my late entry into this forum and this competition doesn't help matters. Thankfully, the final major exam is tomorrow, and I would then be free to compose, but I have exactly 9 days to complete a full string quartet movement. A very daunting task. Hopefully, I can burn the midnight oil to finish this in time. Is it possible? Guys let me know on your opinions haha Quote

Austenite Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 For once, I actually saw a contest before the deadline! I'm a bit rusty now, but will give a long (short) look before taking a chance... Quote

Quinn Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 Crikey....I forgot. That's the price of semi-unlockdown with family visiting. Jeez... never mind. The marking and voting got a bit complicated anyway. I'll stick it in the appropriate forum section when I get a few minutes. 1 Quote
Joshua Ng Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 (edited) Hi, could I ask for the extension for the judging of other people's compositions? (Possible until around 25-26 of August?) I got hit with a severe case of dengue and am currently hospitalised. As such, I feel very weak and I'm required to just rest and recover... I don't think it would be fair to just randomly throw out 3 applicants' compositions without actively taking a look at their work, I would like the time to analyse their work and give some comments. So sorry for the inconvenience! Edited August 20, 2020 by Joshua Ng 1 Quote
Quinn Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 I apologise for being shafted for time here - but where does one vote? Could be me just being dim enough not to spot something but if someone could point me to the ballot box, please.... I can't find anything among these two threads dealing with the competition. Quote

Monarcheon Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 Entrant voting date has been changed to the same day as the judging date, August 28th. Quote
Noah Brode Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 (edited) @Joshua Ng -- See Monarcheon's message above. Everyone else -- Note that Monarcheon's message above applies to everyone, not just Joshua Ng. Please remember that if you are an entrant, it is a requirement that you vote on the other entrants' submissions. Thanks! EDIT: Just FYI, I double-checked, and it looks like 6 of the 10 entrants have voted thus far, along with 2 YC members who hadn't entered. Edited August 21, 2020 by Noah Brode more info Quote

I just double-checked the rules to make sure, and it doesn't explicitly say one way or the other, but it was my understanding going in that anyone could vote on the entries (but entrants have to vote or be disqualified). Edit: The good news is that the deadline just got extended 😁 Edited August 21, 2020 by Noah Brode Edit 1 Quote
