At the end I will probably not participate because I'm having an emotional crisis after doing really bad with exams and my grandfather probably dying soon.

Have fun.

So sorry to read this.

By the way my grandfather died last night.

Maybe you're not in the right head space to submit a piece, sorry to hear of your loss. However, I've experienced a different type of loss with this pandemic, and it lead me back to this site and writing a piece in Sibelius for the first time in a few years. Just remember time heals all wounds, and I look forward to your return. What was once a great void in my life has turned to a fire I'm eager to share with you all.

See you soon

Hi guys, sorry I may not able to complete in time, I shall give it my best shot. The piece that I was composing for this competition will be the final movement of my first string quartet. However, I have only sketched out the form and structure of the quartet and (just finished) the opening for an otherwise very virtuosic final movement. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to work on the movement earlier as I had to focus on my academics for the past month as the exams as very crucial to my future. (I need to score well to have options for choosing my subject combinations in Senior High and would probably determine my uni degree in the future, sort of like AP and elective classes in high school for the US) Hence, I had no time to really focus on composing over the past month, and my late entry into this forum and this competition doesn't help matters. Thankfully, the final major exam is tomorrow, and I would then be free to compose, but I have exactly 9 days to complete a full string quartet movement. A very daunting task. Hopefully, I can burn the midnight oil to finish this in time. Is it possible? Guys let me know on your opinions haha

Crikey....I forgot. That's the price of semi-unlockdown with family visiting. Jeez... never mind. The marking and voting got a bit complicated anyway. I'll stick it in the appropriate forum section when I get a few minutes.

Hi, could I ask for the extension for the judging of other people's compositions? (Possible until around 25-26 of August?) I got hit with a severe case of dengue and am currently hospitalised. As such, I feel very weak and I'm required to just rest and recover... I don't think it would be fair to just randomly throw out 3 applicants' compositions without actively taking a look at their work, I would like the time to analyse their work and give some comments. So sorry for the inconvenience!

I apologise for being shafted for time here - but where does one vote?

Could be me just being dim enough not to spot something but if someone could point me to the ballot box, please....

I can't find anything among these two threads dealing with the competition.

You have to send your vote to @Noah Brode  via email.

Oh wow, I hope you will be okay soon. Don't worry too much and try to heal.

@Joshua Ng -- See Monarcheon's message above.

Everyone else -- Note that Monarcheon's message above applies to everyone, not just Joshua Ng. Please remember that if you are an entrant, it is a requirement that you vote on the other entrants' submissions. Thanks!

EDIT: Just FYI, I double-checked, and it looks like 6 of the 10 entrants have voted thus far, along with 2 YC members who hadn't entered.

Wait, are members who didn't enter allowed to vote? I thought voting was restricted to contest participants...

I just double-checked the rules to make sure, and it doesn't explicitly say one way or the other, but it was my understanding going in that anyone could vote on the entries (but entrants have to vote or be disqualified).

Edit: The good news is that the deadline just got extended 😁

Make sure all the entrants know they must submit their vote, because I thought entrants weren't allowed to vote lol.
