Markus Boyd Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 (edited) Hi All, Thought I'd share this work in progress in case anyone has any input. I have already completed the final movement and may add a third movement (minuetto). The last movement is currently in only 4 parts and I will add a horn at some point. PeterthePapercomPoser Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 I'm starting with the Final movement since that is the order the player played it in for me. This is really refreshing! I am not analyzing it too closely but I assume this is a sonata form since after the first repeat you delve into what I perceive as a development of sorts in various different related keys such as E minor, A minor and D major. Then for some reason you include the development and recapitulation in another repeat. The first movement is in a different instrumentation than the final one? Or maybe when you said you're going to add a 'horn' at some point you meant English Horn? Usually when I hear 'horn' I assume French Horn. I like how each instrument is basically independent from the ensemble. What you have is great so far. What I'd really like to hear is a well developed foray into minor keys like you had in the final movement. I like how you cycle through secondary dominants in the development section of the second movement (starting at around measure 47). I guess all you need now is to fill the holes and finish things off. Overall it's looking to be quite an enjoyable listen! Thanks for sharing and good luck! Quote
Markus Boyd Posted July 26, 2020 Author Posted July 26, 2020 Thanks, and yes I meant the English horn (I use this type as my sound library doesn’t have a french one!). The final movement was composed earlier this year and I though I would use it for this, provided I have the outline of a further two movements now. You will see it’s in g major - I need to transpose to C at some point which will be a tedious but necessary exercise. Thanks for your input. These things can be rather time consuming and I do agree that the development section of the first movement could do with further tonal exploration. I was planning however to vary the tonality of recap to avoid it being monothematic (the final is somewhat monothematic insofar that the recap has very little variance and I may change this at some point. I suppose after 200 or so bars I had obviously had enough!!) hopefully I can post the complete version soon Quote
Albayrak Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 very nice. it sounds like the early classical period. Quote
