JamesRichardson Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 (edited) Here's the link I would really appreciate it if you could have a listen and let me know your thoughts. Thank you 🙂 Edited July 27, 2020 by JamesRichardson 1 Quote
Maqalx Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Hi James, I really liked this piece. It does have a very Japanese sound and I liked the melody you created with the piano. Regards, Alexis 1 1 Quote
PeterthePapercomPoser Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Wow, is that a koto you're using in this? It's a very high quality recording, I can't tell if it's VST's or real instruments. Makes me wish I knew more about foreign instruments. Also .. is that a bamboo flute sound you're using? A very nostalgic mood you've created here. 1 Quote
JamesRichardson Posted July 27, 2020 Author Posted July 27, 2020 Thanks! I really appreciate you're feedback. Yes, it's a koto and that flute you hear is a Shakuhachi. It was really fun to research the different types of instruments for traditional Japanese pieces. The drums are Taiko drums, and a Sanshin is also in there (but this is a bit more subtle). Quote

Is there some kind of a sound library of world music instruments that you're using when you write music like this? And also do you write in other indigenous/popular styles of other countries? That's kind of a neglected genre of music. Quote

It maybe doesn’t answer your question but some Spitfire LABS libraries have foreign instruments. You won’t find a lot but they are completely free so worth the try! Quote

EWQL are a good library to start out with as they are reasonably priced (compared to similar products) and you can get a universal monthly subscription to all of their products. This is actually the first time I've tried to write something that is heavily inspired by world music. 8 minutes ago, Maqalx said: It maybe doesn’t answer your question but some Spitfire LABS libraries have foreign instruments. You can also get quite a good free orchestra (BBC Symphony Discover) if you complete a questionnaire on their website. Quote
Albayrak Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 really successful work and realistic sounds. For a more traditional sound, the effect of the piano can be reduced. 1 Quote

I was a bit limited with the samples I have, so stuck with the piano as this sounded more natural (even if it is less authentic to the genre). Thanks for sharing that soundtrack, I'm enjoying it. Sepharite Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Love it. Beautiful music and I love the sound fonts. 1 Quote

Guillem82 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 (edited) Very nice and consistent piece of music. I love the main motif and how you start just with the piano and then it growns with more instruments to finish just with the piano again. It feels very natural and nice. Good job!
