Ion Fury is freakin' sick and so is the soundtrack. Mostly vintage analogue, modular synths.

Just discovered this track ported through a Super Mario World rom hack called "Send your regrets to the czar".  It's from Natsuki Chronicles - Mighty Magma Red (Stage 5).  There seems to be a rhythmic illusion going on in the first minute of this track where the apparent beats in the beginning turn into offbeats as the track progresses.

Also, for anyone who is interested in VGM, I recommend checking out StrafeFox's "artistry of 16-bit era" series, which is ongoing.

Very detailed and rare footage documentaries of how they made many classic games, and they always have a segment about the music and audio.

I am not a big fan of Pokemon games or anything but I just discovered this piece in a Super Mario World rom hack.  Eterna Forest from Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl:

I found another track that I asked about in the YT comments of a Super Mario World rom hack.  This is from Kirby: Planet Robobot - Green Goo (Green Lab Area) although I've never played any of the Kirby games I just love this track!

This track is from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky - Hidden Land.  I also found it in a Super Mario World rom hack:

This track has really "Japanized" trumpets LoL.  It's from Touhou 10:  Mountain of Faith - The Gensokyo the Gods Loved

A recent Super Mario World rom hack reminded me of how cool and wacky this piece from Super Mario RPG is.  It's the Forest Maze track:

This is Sapphire Eyes by Xenogasa.  It was included in a Super Mario World rom hack so I thought I'd mention it here:

This one is from Lufia 2:  Rise of the Sinistrals - Boss Battle Theme.  I found it in a Super Mario World rom hack (again).

This one is a remix of Few Paths Forbidden from Seiken Denestsu 3 (aka Secret of Mana II):
