Papageno Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 This march is totally experimental for me. I have no idea if it sucks. Please be brutally honest otherwise I will never know any better. I would hate to be that guy on X Factor that's convinced he can sing when in reality the guy is simply deluded. Quote
Bradley Scarff Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 It's a fantastic piece of music, however it doesn't feel like a march too me. It doesn't give the sensation of "lets get up and go" with the exception being the second page. the piece is delightful however I think to call it a march is a slight mistake. Quote
bkho Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 I agree with Bradley, it's not a March but certainly a fine piece in its own right. Marches are in duple meter with very strong downbeats. especially in the bass since it's supposed to keep time for the steps. Your phrasing doesn't have that quality to it. Quote
Papageno Posted September 1, 2020 Author Posted September 1, 2020 Thank you for your feedback. I think I'll rename the piece simply allegro. I've been looking on the Internet for examples of marches written in the gallant style so I can study them, theyre not so easy to find. My intention is to learn to compose simply musical forms before I take on a sonata. Quote
