Saiming Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Well since this rule about not being allowed to upload Mp3. My chances to review someones work is almost non-exsistant, since I don't have either finale or sibelues. And that leads to less reviews on my work, which hopefully will come up. And why did you have to make it only USABLE or subscribers? I mean it was perfect as it was before. :D Quote
CaltechViolist Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 MP3 files unfortunately eat up bandwidth, which both slows the server and drives up the cost of maintaining the site. The server's slow enough as it is! Quote
robinjessome Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 What's wrong with the plethora of free online file hosting sites? Dump your mp3 up there and give us a link... Quote
Maximilian Caldwell Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 If you have DSL it's not terribly slow Quote
bob stole my cookie Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 It has nothing to do with your connection speed... It'll be slower if you have DSL or dial-up (trust me on that)... If the server is slow, it'll be slow for you too. You can't receive data before it's been sent  Quote
Guest JohnGalt Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 It has nothing to do with your connection speed...It'll be slower if you have DSL or dial-up (trust me on that)... You mean like how all the songs I listen to load nearly instantly? Or the songs I download finish in merely seconds? Please tell me you're not assuming things. I've been using SoundClick a lot, mostly through prime time and have never had slowdown. Quote
bob stole my cookie Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I meant that if the server is slow in general, being on DSL wont make it go its normal speed. Of course its slower on a dial-up connection but the decrease in speed is universal between all types of connections (if you get where I'm going with this). Of course download speeds are slower on slower connections, I wasn't refering to that. Quote
CaltechViolist Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 You mean like how all the songs I listen to load nearly instantly? Or the songs I download finish in merely seconds? Please tell me you're not assuming things. I've been using SoundClick a lot, mostly through prime time and have never had slowdown. I'm not referring to Soundclick. I'm referring to YC. When we started up, uploading MP3 files was allowed; now MP3 files can only be posted via external links. Hence I was answering Saiming's complaint: YC doesn't have the bandwidth or the server speed to host MP3 files. Quote
bob stole my cookie Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Soundclick has a better server then YC. Thus, if you have a fast enough connection (with enough bandwidth), downloads will always be fast (assuming your connection speed is constant and reliable) because the rate of the data packets leaving their server to reach your (and other people's computers) is consistant. If their server slows down (the rate that packets leaving their server slows), it'll take longer for your download to complete, whether you recieve your data at 1GB/s or 28.8 kb/s. Better explained this time? If it's the server that's slow, the speed at which the page loads will be slow (-er than usual....).   Quote
Saiming Posted September 12, 2006 Author Posted September 12, 2006 Don't know about you guys, but. I cant use the Poll option. There is this box a bit lower down, to mark if you want a poll or not. When I click on it, nothing happens. Quote
Guest JohnGalt Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Yes, you can make a poll, you just have to know how to use it. Quote
bob stole my cookie Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Read the FAQ via the convenient link at the top. It contains much useful knowledge as I have discovered  Quote
Saiming Posted September 13, 2006 Author Posted September 13, 2006 Ha, thanks. that is more of a helpful answer. Quote
bob stole my cookie Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Enh. Why not post this here? Is there any way to get the new posts page to refresh its self every few minutes like it used to? Quote
