BC345 Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Hello, here's a cute piano song! I'd like to know what I can improve, while preserving this style. Thanks! piano.mp3 MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu piano > next Quote
Guillem82 Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Romantic Ballad style, a bit mainstream and Disney for my taste, but sound nice though :) I would leave it like it is. Quote
PeterthePapercomPoser Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Overall this was nice with lots of variation in the harmonic voicings (such as plenty use of inversion). Also, I think you pretty much use the whole range of the piano, so great job there. I think there are some mistakes in the right hand? At 1:52 it sounds like the right hand runs into some accidental chromatics. An enjoyable piece overall. Thanks for sharing! Quote

Thanks! Yeah, romantic ballad sounds about right 😀 21 hours ago, PaperComposer said: Overall this was nice with lots of variation in the harmonic voicings (such as plenty use of inversion). What would be a good topic to study? 21 hours ago, PaperComposer said: At 1:52 it sounds like the right hand runs into some accidental chromatics. Ah, I wanted to try out lowered 9th on the V chord there for quirkiness. Does it sound out of place? Quote

What would be a good topic to study? Well you already have some interesting bass movement in relation to the melody - maybe you could explore the use of some kind of countermelody? Just an idea. 18 minutes ago, BC345 said: Ah, I wanted to try out lowered 9th on the V chord there for quirkiness. Does it sound out of place? Well - at 1:52 it sounds like you use both a b9 and a #9 one after the other. There are places where such a treatment would make sense and some probably wouldn't find it objectionable but to me it sounded out of place. Maybe if you used just a b9 and then immediately resolved it down to the octave it would be a nice momentary color tone. Quote
Guillem82 Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 I was about to tell you the same, min 1:52 accidental look a bit out of the place. The rest works fine. I like how you finish it in the upper register. Quote
BC345 Posted September 29, 2020 Author Posted September 29, 2020 I see, I'll be more careful with accidentals 😶 Thanks for the advice and critique, guys, I'll look into counter-melodies, then. Quote
