SerialismSerious Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 First of all, a BIG thank you to Luis Hernandez and TrebleWoofer for commenting on the piano solo version of this piece. It all means and helps a lot. I went ahead and arranged the whole thing for a wind band. Most of the original ideas are there, but there's some more added content such as mirror chords, broken woodwind runs, groovy percussive features, and many more. I apologize that the software recording isn't at the best quality right now. A scoring cannot be added as of right now (to eliminate the fact of seeing 40+ instruments on each page, can truly be a pain for the eyes), nevertheless, the scoring is still in a works in progress. I was told by some other critics that this piece could be centered around a Halloween theme; and I know it's a bit too early for this but, Happy Halloween to you all! PeterthePapercomPoser Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 (edited) Hello and nice job! I listened to your original piano version again and kept the score of that piece open to compare to this one as I listened to it. You've extended it considerably towards the end! I think this piece does work as a Halloween themed piece as many sections remind me of a funeral march. The addition of percussion to the running lines in the beginning also lent that section a kind of sense of being chased. The only thing that I would vary a little bit if it were up to me (although you're free to ignore this if you were going for a march-like effect as mentioned) is the offbeat rhythms you use. In a piece such as this the listener is led to expect I think a bit more rhythmic variety. You could have used triplet and sixteenth note offbeats and various different rhythms but you stuck to the 8th note offbeats. Maybe that was intentional. That's just a nit pick though ... overall this is very good work! You add some very dramatic stuff towards the end of the piece. Also, the touches of celesta in the beginning really lent the piece a haunted feel (EDIT: apparently there is no celesta in this piece only glockenspiel and vibraphone). Thanks for the music! SerialismSerious Posted October 6, 2020 Author Posted October 6, 2020 Thanks for listening and checking it out! I appreciate your comment and time. I attached a scoring somewhere around here: the part I think you mention is on the sections starting on measures 12 and 79. I understand what you mean, of course the midi doesn't do this properly, but I was going for an effect like 'bell tones' -it's changed to where the basses are syncopated and other parts (playing on beats 1 & 3) are not. I'm glad you liked this piece and thanks again for listening! PDF Entering the Dark Mirror (for wind band) PDF CONDUCTOR SCORE Quote
