Fantasia in g minor

Fantasia i g minor.

Fantasia for organ in the key of g minor.  Multiple subjects and fugesubjects.

Ps: The piece has not been editet yet, so there are som mistenkes. Both intentional and unintentional 🙂

A few places need edited maybe, but this is a masterpiece!  How classically trained are you?  Must be. Brilliant piece!

But maybe I'm just the wrong guy to ask,

I got bored by baroque easily...

For me it felt too static and repetitive,

I can summon a baroque listener if you'd like.

You know what, I'll ask him now

(tho there's no way to make sure he'll be interested)

Look, I'm a young composer maybe but im really into baroque and learned it for the last 2 years.

I dont think that "fantasia" is the right term here...

when you hear the word fantasia you expect something more free and not that "fugie". so maybe think about that.

about the music itself, maybe try using more base - for a lot of young composers the bass of the organ sounds muddy but that something thats making the baroque sound of a (I call it) fat piece.

I dont know what did ya mean and which sounds you wanted to hear - But I think it will improve the piece.

other then that, sounds really nice and a bit like a sad march (maybe a funeral march?) and kind of repeating itself. try make a development.

Thank you for your kind words MichaelJohn! I have had some traning yes,  four years at the conservatory, chruchmusic (Organ, choir conducting, harmony, counterpoint, composition). Besides that i have written music in the baroque langauge for the last 15 years.

Hello there Jehonathan. Glad you are really into baroque, what kind of baroque style do you prefer, and do you write baroque yourself?

I think i have to disagree with you on the fantasia. Take a look at this definition: "In the Baroque era, fantasias were often suitably paired with fugues or other contrapuntal works, such as in the case of Bach. A fantasia could also have alternating sections of rapid fugal material, interspersed with slower melodic sections with denser harmonies. This particular form used in fantasia writing more or less died out with Henry Purcell in the late Baroque"

Use more bass? If you take a look at the keysignature (g minor) Its relative high. The reason organ bass sounds fat is because of the 16 foot or the 32 foot. This fantasia is scored for keyboard (organ/harpsichord), buts is a manualiter piece. Could offcourse be played with pedals to, or pedal in some places. But music is not intended for 16 foot, just natural 8 foot. Following the early baroque tradition of "voices".

About repeating itself, i do disagree. Baroque  pieces are often written out of a short figure or motif. This piece has a lot of sections. As my style is early/mid baroque this is normal. If you look at the fuges of buxtehude, they are very different from bach in material. But bachs great fugue in g minor is still buildt on this principle. If you dont love the theme, its not a piece for you.
