bob stole my cookie Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 As a composer, what to you is the best "compliment" you and your music can receive? For example, giving a piece of music to a family member or friend and later hearing them hum it (i.e. they liked it enough to listen to it enough to remember it and proving you have a catchy little theme) ect. So.. any thoughts? (I don't remember if a thread like this exists... probably does....) Quote
Dunael Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I guess that for me it's being played by friends  Quote
PianoManGidley Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I've had some pretty good compliments on my music--people getting my melodies stuck in their head and/or wanting to turn the melodies into a cell phone ring. Quote

bob stole my cookie Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 Then that is something you never have to worry about, being your music is void of any possibly catchy or memorible tune  Quote
montpellier Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 The best compliment for a short composition must surely be the audience demanding an encore. For a punk composition, the audience throwing beer cans and underwear. Quote
Nigel Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I will be happy if people say they're good. And the music shows when he signs in on msn... Quote
PaulP Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 The best compliment I've had, in recent memory is when a friend listened to a recent composition of mine (in midi with earphones on) and at various sections he was like "whoa"...."Whoa"....."WHOA". Then he said "Paul, it's time you put together a CD". Although he's not very familiar with the idiom (baroquish music) and the "whoa's" might have been tempered had he been, it was still nice and flattering comming from a fellow musician (blues, talented guitarist) . Will Kirk Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 For me it's probably when people just stop and listen till the piece is finished, and then they say that they liked it and walk on. Not really much, but then again, not a whole lot of people have heard my compositions being played by me ;) Quote
CaltechViolist Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 For me, it's having someone want to perform it. Quote
Alex Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Prolly if someone quoted Mozart when they were talking about my work. "I didn't know that music like that was possible When one hears such sounds, what can one say, but 'Eddwin0072.'" Of course that's not an exact quote nor my real name but... Quote
