Fugax Contrapunctus Posted January 23, 2021 Posted January 23, 2021 (edited) https://youtu.be/SnsLmT97s_0 Not much to say about this piece, other than its composing process was way easier than that of a fugue (as you might expect based on the fact there's barely any counterpoint involved). Created a catchy theme, built upon it, and called it a day. Please enjoy! Edited January 27, 2021 by Nhloki Quote
Olov Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Nice and moody piece. I love the polyphonic texture 1 Quote

But I would suggest to slightly rewrite the harpsichord part, because at some points it is basically unplayable, or nearly unplayable. Which means, that the harpsichordist would be able to "play the notes" but not to preserve the polyphonic structure, an example of this is right the first measure, where You have to hardly stretch out hand, if You want to reach the very first notes. Then You should reach the next notes (left hand - the second quaver, right hand - the third semiquaver) but still stay on the first notes (according to the score) and that is unplayable (unless You are an octopus). You could theoretically "let go" the first notes and go for the next, but that would make "a hole" in the part, which would break the polyphonic structure. And this very problem repeats several times in the piece, so as I wrote, my humble suggestion is to slightly rewrite these problematic parts. 1 Quote

I was already noted this issue by someone else and I can only say, you're totally right! However I can't edit the video itself, since this is YouTube, but I will certainly edit the original score for future use. Countless thank for your advice! 🙂 Edited January 30, 2021 by Nhloki 1 Quote

Hopefully it is fixed by now (look at the score attached! 🙂). NOTE: MuseScore's latest update has apparently fixed my audio exporting problems! Hurray! NOTE: MuseScore's latest update has apparently fixed my audio exporting problems! Hurray! It seems certainly much better. There are still some places, where You can't hold it through the full length, but in the cases that left (or at least that I saw) it is not a problem anymore, because meanwhile You play another notes and the phrase lasts through them (for example the first d in the left hand right in the second measure). In the seventh measure is ninth in the left hand, which is playable, but (for "baroque style" harpsichord) unusuall. Frankly, the only still unplayable part is the very last chord 🙂. Quote
Markus Boyd Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 This is nice. Reminds me a bit of JS Bach’s Goldberg variations, at least structurally speaking. Keep it up . Ps I subscribed to you 1 Quote
