AKAChristopher Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Canon are interesting things, strict ones especially so. You start off a melodic line knowing exactly the steps that a second line will be treading and you have to make that first line go in a direction that the second line can walk under or over without clashing in harmonically wrong ways. Luckily, if the first line cannot do that, you can always walk him back and start over. It is a balancing act that can be a fascinating exercise to conduct whether it be only as a musical exercise or an attempt at good music - an act that presents more and more challenges based on the number of voices used. I only got up to three and to be honest, I am at least a bit proud of achieving that in three of them. For the most part, these were created with that first goal in mind, my first attempt at such things after Fux studies. I am interested in what you might think of the counterpoint as well as any perceived or unperceived musical value that these canon contain. Thanks for reading...and listening if you choose to do that. (point of order: the tenth canon is not quite strict as i flubbed the third entry but i liked the energy so i left it as was) (point of order 2: these were realized using solo violins found in Garritan Personal Orchestra and I attempted to MIDI-ize them into a reality, how did I do? Most of this consisted of attempts at subtle changes in dynamics) PDF TenCanon2 Quote
