I was thinking of calling this a nocturne, but I’m not sure how appropriate that categorization is. This piece was meant to evoke a foggy atmosphere in the period where it’s not certain whether it’s really late at night or really early in the morning.

It’s quite brief and repetitive, so I hope to expand it later.

[I have expanded it]

Don't mean to roast myself but this gives me "background music" vibes.

This made me laugh

But is that a bad thing? I guess it depends on what you're going for. Is does sound like that to me, but with a floaty harmony it's hard not to unless there were more changes in texture. If you're looking for ideas, maybe a bit more contrast would help with development?

Or perhaps a more obvious motif in your melody? Something to catch the ear away from the chords? I found myself listening to the harmony and I felt like the melody could get buried underneath.

Dunno, it's cool as is, but your comment made me feel like you were going for different vibes. Either way, great piece, and hopefully these suggestions help in further edits or future pieces.

Cool piece.  I don't see why you couldn't call this a nocturne, the jazzy style certainly works wells to convey that type of ambience.

I've since added a C section, it's more melodic than a lot of the piece imo. So omitting the intro and outro, the song is ABACAB now I think. I'll post the completed version soon.

Nah, I was going for a more ambient and atmospheric feeling. I just meant that this piece doesn't feel like it's the center of attention, it sounds like it could work well as background music.

I said it was supposed to convey a foggy night, maybe it should be called a fogturne.
