ElvisDeane Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Hi, I just shot a short film, an eight minute psychological drama, and was wondering if anyone would be interested in scoring it. Since this is my first real live-action film and I'm planning on getting it into as many festivals as I can, I was hoping to have something that sounds better than the loop-based music or ambient sound effects I normally use for my films. The mood I'm looking for is something along the lines of James Newton Howard's Unbreakable score, or the more subtle parts of Trevor Jones' score for Dark City. A little dark and creepy, but subtle. The film is pretty dialogue heavy, but there are three short, silent scenes where the music can take a more prominent role. I can't pay much, but I do have a little money left in the budget, at least enough for you to take the wife and kids out to a movie. If anyone's interested, you can reach me at elvis@astoundingadventures.com Regards, Elvis Deane www.astoundingadventures.com Quote
montpellier Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Maybe you've found someone already. If not, tell me more about: the style you want - I do a fair bit of electronic and orchestral music - my "pop" music tends to be dark and moody, my classical what ever you want as long as it isn't too big. Never noisy though, unless a surprise is needed. If you want samples of my work, let me know. They're all copyrighted. Is the film/shooting script with timings enough info to spot it, pick up the silences/very quiet bits? Money's not too important as long as I keep the copyright. Let us know, but I'll also post this publicly so others are saved at last asking these quetions. Cheers, Montpellier.. Quote
ElvisDeane Posted September 24, 2006 Author Posted September 24, 2006 Maybe you've found someone already. If not, tell me more about: the style you want - I do a fair bit of electronic and orchestral music - my "pop" music tends to be dark and moody, my classical what ever you want as long as it isn't too big. Never noisy though, unless a surprise is needed. Have had a few people express interest, but I haven't made any decisions yet. Would love to hear your work, email it if you like. Stylistically, I'm looking for something either orchestral or piano. My biggest worry is having music that's too bold, and might overshadow the actors. It's a pretty small movie in scope, about a guy slowly going nuts and an odd psychiatrist trying to find a solution. I mentioned Unbreakable because to me it's a score that's a little dark and melancholy, but never too heavy handed. Is the film/shooting script with timings enough info to spot it, pick up the silences/very quiet bits? I should have a rough cut of the film done by tonight, though there's a lot of visual effects to do still, so some timing may change a bit. At least the first two of six scenes are ready to go. Money's not too important as long as I keep the copyright. All I'm really looking for is rights to play it in festivals and perhaps on TV if any of the Canadian cable networks that play shorts are interested in it. Quote
