PeterthePapercomPoser Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Quite a bright and happy piece! I wonder if you named the piece before or after you wrote it? I'm betting after for some reason - it seems like it would be much more monothematic if you had intentionally stuck to the theme of depicting a child's march but what you gave us is quite a differentiated melodic and harmonic journey! Seems almost minimalistic in some places. Also - that's quite an energetic ending you've composed! I guess it wouldn't really sound as final if it didn't include an accelerando - most of the rest of the piece is in a walking tempo. Thanks for sharing! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Quote
MJFOBOE Posted July 3, 2021 Author Posted July 3, 2021 The initial idea for the work began about 10 years ago. I wrote a rough sketch at that time. However, my composing skills were limited ... I just began to put things together. I revisited the work about a year or so ago. The opening theme is the girl's theme. I began the work with her in mind and her journey. So it's programmatic music. I am pleased you enjoyed the composition. I have another programmatic piece which I will post. Thanks for the listen~! 1 Quote
aMusicComposer Posted July 3, 2021 Posted July 3, 2021 Straight away my interest was piqued(!) by those clarinets in fifths at 0:05! Great piece of orchestration. Everything up to 0:30 sounds really skilful and inspired (if, admittedly, a little underrefined (is that a word?)) - I always think (not that I should know of course) that these things will only come with time, and of course I am plagued by the same lack of experience as anyone else! Enough philosophical musing. And at 0:40 - what a glorious key change! Skipping forward... Sometimes the music becomes a little heavy for a "child's walk". Places like 3:50 don't quite fit with the title (although the music is very nice indeed.) On the same vein, perhaps the ending is a little too grand for a child - but maybe they have big dreams!? Yes, really nice work. A little bit more technique practice could help. i.e. writing more music! Thanks for sharing! aMC Quote
