DailyDuo Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 Hi, I want to play Schumann's Drei Fantasiestücke but am wondering whether it is necessary to transpose the part for A clarinet to B clarinet. Here's the link: Please advise, Duo Quote
Nelly Visser Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 Great job, but I think you need to use refreshed score on this masterpiece - https://musescore.com/nicolas/scores/86436. I think it is more correct. Quote
Snake_Cake Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 Any professional classical clarinettist is supposed to own 2 clarinets, one in A and the other in Bb. If you don't, you'll have to transpose it by hand (even though the pros tend to be able to do it by sight usually). Quote

Tom Statler Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 All that being (correctly) said, sometimes you just have to transpose, like when you're handed a part for Bass Clarinet in A and you can't get your hands on anything other than a B-flat instrument. Just add seven flats in your head, no worries... and no writing it out enharmonically with sharps instead -- that would just be a sign of weakness. Quote
