celloman99 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Hey all, This is a piece I wrote in the Spring of '21 for my composition lessons. Programmatically, the is based on the following quote: "All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as self-evident." - Arthur Schopenhauer This was my first time writing for an orchestra this large and also my first time combining orchestration with a more modern compositional style. Quinn Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 (edited) Certainly an ambitious piece and modern. Great work all round. If anything it's let down by the rendering, an unfortunate failing of notation software for several reasons (most usually dynamics and balance) but it's enough to get the gist of it. The problem for students learning the art of orchestration (and I suppose that's a process that never ends, we just hope to improve and refine) is musescore renderings frustrate any chance to achieve balance without fiddling the dynamics sometimes to extremes. Be very careful about giving casual permission for the distribution of your work*. It truly is worth getting it on paper with signatures. Now that scores can so easily be put on line there's a fair bit of stealing. I register scores with PRS before posting them on line. I think the US equivalent is ASCAP. Edit - *Especially to someone who asks or urges people here to post their work on musescore in almost everyone of their posts. Edited September 27, 2021 by Quinn Quote
