PeterthePapercomPoser Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 It's a good 1st attempt at a variations piece! As per your question - it's playable but a real flautist would vary the tempo and allow themselves some choice spots to breathe. Also - your variations make good use of various note values to introduce novelty and interest but you ignore possible tempo and meter changes which would have been nice. Just saying it would have been a great opportunity for virtuosic showmanship if you had composed a faster tempo variation maybe with high and low notes juxtaposed next to each other to suggest multiple voices and their motion. This short piece is hardly exhaustive of all the possibilities inherent in your theme! Thanks for sharing and keep composing! Quote
Quinn Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 The notes are all playable - no difficult trills - but you need to put in tempo markings - also, if you are new to this, 'breath commas' (more for yourself so you can see where note durations might be foreshortened and to be sure you give the player enough breathing spaces. As Peter says, keep going! Quote

I'm not too familiar with solo flute repertoire Quote
