Papageno Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 This is a fantasy I've been playing with, in the recording I improvise the development section because I haven't decided on anything yet. Quote
PeterthePapercomPoser Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 I tried counting along to this piece to figure out what meter it was in. I was always thwarted by rhythmic hiccups and unexpected syncopation (which itself seemed to establish the beginning of a new strong beat instead of being syncopated so confused me all the more). The piece starts in common time. In some places it seems to be in 3/4. That's all I can figure out. It would be neat to be provided with an answer sheet (a score if you have one would be great!) to this little rhythm quiz you've given me! LoL (I'm guessing that the meter is really simple but that you're just playing with rubato maybe ???) The music is really wonderful though. It has breath and life and in many places seems to savor the moment and kind of hold it's breath actually (0:40 - 0:47). Really beautiful phrases that even Mozart would appreciate. In the middle 3/4 section I felt like you hesitated a bit at 4:19 to figure out what the next harmony will be. I quite like that section though - I hope you don't change it too much in the final version. Great job in composing, performing, and improvising this gem! Thanks for sharing! Quote
Papageno Posted February 23, 2022 Author Posted February 23, 2022 Thank you for listening to my music and for your comments. When I played it I was also unaware of the meter so it may not actually be consistent at all. I dont have a score, I just play the idea from memory and it seems to change each time I play it as I develop the ideas. I had to look up the term rubato, and I think you're right because I was trying to play expressively. At 40 seconds I'm holding a high D natural octave while the left hand plays C7 in arpeggio, the D resolves down to C, I've not seen that done before in the pieces I've played but the effect is quite expressive. I recorded another theme last night that I will play with to create a melancholic piece in a major key. I have 5 or 6 pieces I play from memory now that I compose through improvising. 1 Quote
