Fugax Contrapunctus
After more than a year of inactivity in this forum, I've decided to return and paulatinely post my compositions from this period. Starting with my latest fugue, which as shown on the score PDF file was composed just two days ago and has undergone a key set of minor details being changed since I published it on my YT channel. Simen-N
Hello! Very nice fugue! I really like the subject, you write very well in the baroque style. I think there is a problem with the harmonic rythem in this piece. The subject is offbeat. I made you a little example. Fugax Contrapunctus
Dear @Simen-N, I profoundly appreciate your criticism about the fugal subject, although unfortunately the alleged issue with harmonic rhythm was intentional. I became fond of the dissonances produced in the 3rd and 4th entries by the original subject and decided to go along with them. Thank you very much, however, for taking the time to compose your own version upon a similar, more rhythmically sensical subject. Right after listening to it I was surprised that you didn't point out the thorough absence of subject mutations to the major relative in my fugue, which is a problem I never get around solving in my compositions. Regardless, thank you so much for your time and dedication. Yours sincerely, Fugax Edited March 7, 2022 by Fugax Indoles
jejrekmek
is this tuned to the pitch standard that they would have used in the baroque era? if so nice touch

So, not really a far cry from Baroque standards like 415 Hz or 465 Hz but still fairly close to 440 Hz, though nowhere nearly as irritating to the ear methinks.
