MuseScience Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 (edited) This is the short introduction movement of an orchestral piece that I'm writing for fun called "Legends, Fabled Tales, and Ancient Doings." My intention with this project is to compose the emotions and color of a world of fantasy and the theoretical epic tales that would come with it. Later on, I plan on adding several movements to it to make it a whole piece. Let me know what you think of this first movement! I welcome any feedback/suggestions/criticisms. 1. PeterthePapercomPoser Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 The use of the dorian mode in this piece exemplifies a dark but epic feel that I think the dorian mode is perfect for. And the frequent doubling between the strings and flute or piccolo gives it a certain Celtic flavor. It feels like a kind of really slow march or procession which I guess is at least partly your intention judging by the name of the piece. My only observation or critique if you would call it that, is that it's pretty monothematic and lacking in contrast. I guess that's your intention as well because this piece is meant to just narrate or describe the entrance into the forest and I'd expect the other future movements to exemplify different things. So I guess the piece accomplishes what it set out to do. Nice job and thanks for sharing! Quote
jonesem12 Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 (edited) Very late to the party here, but i would love to hear more of this! Such a beautiful opening theme for a movement - Dorian makes the piece sound 'whimsical' Edited April 13, 2023 by jonesem12 spelling Quote
