Hey guys,

I'm a long time reader, new poster. I'm freshly graduating with my B.A., and going to get my Master's degree in composition as the next leg of my journey. I've gotten into three really great schools: Peabody, MSM, and Mannes. For sake of anonymity, I don't really want to disclose studios but they're all competitive, as well as scholarships that have brought the price to a comparable amount. I just wanted to post here and see if anyone had experience or opinions that could potentially help me make my decision right now.

Thanks!

I don't have any experience with those schools, but I think the first thing you should probably do is get in contact with the composition department professors and see what the "vibe" is. Like, it'd also be really helpful to look at composition student concerts and what their output looks like. Maybe talk to one of two, as well. To me composition study is really hard to judge unless you're actively talking to people, because so much of it hinges on the professors' personalities and their ideas.

For reference, I declined going to doctorate studies because I couldn't find a place that I liked enough to justify the time and effort for what is very much a "wall hanging" degree.
