Aiwendil Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 (edited) Overall, it's quite nice. It reminds me of playing Bach flute sonatas. I do think there are a few slightly awkward moments, harmonically speaking - particularly at measure 6, where we not only have an F natural closely followed by F sharp, and then again closely followed by F natural, but we also have the augmented second between the E flat and F sharp. It sounded weird to me, and not quite in line with the Baroque idiom of the rest of the piece. I also thought the dissonance between the B flat in the bass and the A in the melody at measure 16 sounded a little harsh. One suggestion that would make it easier (for me, at least) to review this piece would be if you provided a figured bass or some other means of indicating the chords. Mostly, they're pretty obvious, but it would just make it easier to read. But that's all nitpicking. Again, I enjoyed it. Edited July 13, 2022 by Aiwendil Quote

Especially the one with the Augmented second, I try to avoid those as much as possible! I will have to also keep in mind to add figured bass notations when I am writing too, not just for myself but also for others as well! Quote
Rich Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 To play off of another comment by MJF-- The flute part and harpsichord are effective, but as you are using Baroque format, why not write idiomatically for the cello? Listening/reading a few Bach or CPE Bach, Handel flute sonatas will show their handling (Handeling? harharhar) More support for the continuo line from the cello, with imitation of the flute melody would create more movement, interest, and a more subtle harmony. It is also much more difficult, but I think worth the effort. Quote
