bored_comedy Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 (edited) This a real short one. I thought it started off promisingly, but it quickly deteriorated. I struggled a lot in staying in B-flat major, but the whole piece seemed to like to stay at E-flat major. Caused many issues. I eventually gave up and ended in E-flat. Not a great one by me, but I came here to listen to your feedback, as I think that that's helpful. aMusicComposer Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 Now, I know this is called 'Tremolos,' but a) I think the repeated chords are a bit too likely to give a pianist RSI and b) it would probably look better if you wrote the tremolos out in full semiquavers. I don't think there's anything especially wrong with your melodies, harmonies or textures, but this piece has too many different ideas. Up to Bar 12, you have more than enough material to develop and create an extended section or piece. It feels like a lot of bits of sections pasted one after another. There's nothing wrong with through-composing, but you'll want a bit more development in this piece. The thing is, you have a very strong, characterful rhythm and a recognisable melody - use them to their full extent! Regarding the key signature: to me the opening sounded like it was in E-flat major. It's a very John Williams style fanfare, suggested suspended harmonies and ushering in the main theme. Really what you have here is a wonderful piano composition in Eb major, but you've used the key signature of Bb major! In short, lots of great ideas in here! Really distinctive melodies and rhythms, but I felt there were just too many ideas going on to keep track of. Thanks for sharing! Quote
PeterthePapercomPoser Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 I don't know how anybody else perceives it, but up to bar 25 the piece sounded like it could have easily ended in Bb. Then you tack on the three measures at the end in Eb, which to me sounded forced. Quote
