Jeremy Carter Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 (edited) This pirate themed track "Ghosts of the Ocean" is a release back from July. I was curious to hear other composer's opinions and thoughts on the composition. I create all of my music using virtual instrument libraries (namely from Spitfire Audio) and was also curious if anyone had any suggestions on certain libraries that would enhance a score like this. Thank you for listening! Spotify Link YouTube Link (edited) Edited December 8, 2022 by Jeremy Carter Wrong Links 1 Quote
Omicronrg9 Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Hi Jeremy. Sorry, I am clueless when it comes to sound libs and anyway this sounds very convincing to me, not necessarily for a pirate theme but it surely works for that. Is the guitar also made the same way? It's perhaps the only instrument that might be a little below in terms of sound quality (to my ears at least). All orchestral sounds seem realistic enough to me (perhaps not to other users more used to working with VSTs and sound effects). Now regarding the structure of piece itself, regardless of the sounds: • It has nice melodic lines and the flute/strings question-answer structure works well. • Transitions to calm are done nicely (specially the first one), but the organ near the end doesn't really convince me and the ending is, in my humble opinion of course, too abrupt considering that you've built a tremendous momentum with the guitar and strings. I expected a final as bombastic as the guitar section but I got an abrupt strings ending. As long as you are satisfied with it it's totally fine though, consider that I'm being extra nit-picky. Liked and subscribed! Kind regards, Daniel–Ømicrón. Quote

There is no guitar on the track "Ghosts of the Ocean", but I am now seeing that I embedded the wrong link for YouTube (you listened to Ocean's Fang), haha. But to answer to answer your question, no the guitar is the only real instrument on the album and it does kind of stick out like a sore thumb in the mix of virtual instruments. I edited the original post to have the correct links. 13 hours ago, Omicronrg9 said: I expected a final as bombastic as the guitar section but I got an abrupt strings ending. Again, it's not the song I was intending to be reviewed but "Ocean's Fang" is representative of a sea storm with gentle and stormy waves displayed in the transitions across the song. Thank you for your time and review, it was insightful! 1 Quote
