The Creation -Joseph Haydn

Featured Replies

So, I'm looking for commentary and opinion....

I've decided to begin another Orchestral work -in the hopes of having one around to submit to competitions in the future. I've decided that I want to create an orchestral tone poem depicting the creation as mention in the book of Bereshit (Genesis). My take is a multilayered approach that includes incorporating concepts derived from Quantum Mechanical understanding of matter from both the macro and microcosmic understanding. Thus, it's going to be a rather large scale work in scope that incorporates many different compositional techniques which I've already begun sketching out.

Anyways, what I'd like to glean from others on here is your own personal takes on Haydn's Creation. Also, if any of you have any other works that deal with the topic of creation.... please share in.

Haydn's Creation

This intrigues me. How would you exactly incorporate the QM understanding of matter to your piece? Why QM and not QFT?

Haydn's work is monstrous. I never listened to this one entirely, but I'm really tempted to do it now!

Kind regards,
Daniel–Ømicrón.

My first idea is to utilize the 2nd violins, Violas, and Celli in the idea of the quantum level of matter -a chaotic underpinning to the entire piece that begins slowly and builds up pace throughout the piece. I don't want to go into specifics.... but I think it'll be an interesting texture throughout.

That's really interesting! But that's not comprehensible to me, an idiot on physics 🤣!

Is that the reverse of entropy? From chaos to culture?

What I'm looking at isn't so much chaos to culture. Though that would be an interesting idea for a piece!

Instead, I'm referring to the idea that the subatomic level all around us is beyond chaotic. Particles zoom around at odds with each other -in completely incomprehensible ways. Yet, we don't see this at our macro level. Everything to us looks all orderly and pristine -save for the random events that are caused by our own species, other species, or nature. Thus, I want to create a layer in this idea that captures this subatomic aspect of life and takes that from the first moments of creation -where we can assume that the chaos began slowly as there were most likely fewer particles. Or was there? That's a good question!
