Lament

Seasons greetings everyone!

Here's a very simple piece I improvised on electric piano.

One person I played it to, said the melody sounds too hopeful to be a lament.

Maybe he's right; though for me it feels quite melancholy and poignant.

N.B. Two modified versions of the piece are posted lower down the thread.

It seems simple but it's definitely not easy to hold attention of an audience for 4 minutes! Great job here!

I myself don't think it lamentable or melancholic. Rather I think it's contemplative with the echo of the electric piano. It may be a liitle bit sad, but just a little bit. It's more like reflecting what's done at the past or repenting for me. I really think it can be good therapeutic music though! Good job!

Nice improvisation Alex, though I'm not a fan of the timbre, it's too metallic in some parts.

Also I more or less agree with @Henry Ng Tsz Kiuand your friend. I don't find it hopeful though. It's in the very rich scale of grey between those. But at the end of the day, it's your perception of the piece what counts for its title in this case.

This certainly doesn't seem like a lament.... or even melancholic in any way. I hate saying it.... but it almost sounds like one of those 1980 slow pop diddies. I'm guessing that's the instrumentation?

That said, a score would definitely help weed through the midi rendering and give us a better idea what you're going for.

For the Crystal Ocean one I actually find mysterious and beguiling. I enjoy this one! So comfortable to hear to.

I like the waterdrops in the second one!! I love this one the best out of the three! The waterdrops fill up the otherwise static gap! You know, the waterdrops really propel me to sleep! Too comfortable to listen to! This can be put in the bed shops I guess.

Just joking!!😁😆! I find these pieces really therapeutic. Do you consider making more pieces like this for therapeutic or commercial use? They will make good BGM too!

Yes I would definitely like to make more electronic music.

Have barely scratched the surface of the synth apps on my iPad, and VSTs on my laptop.

Surprising how much you can get for free, or very cheap!

I'm afraid I don't really have time to tidy the score right now.

At the moment it's a mess of enharmonic misspellings and offbeats!
