Waff Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 My album, he you and i, was released on january 1st, 2023, but the songs were written as old as 2009. It was a long time ago, and i have been through a lot of stuff which is why the songs were released so late! But its here, and it's better than ever! The songs would have turned out much differently, and everything that I went throguh happened for a reason. It's here to stay! One thing to mention is that I am deaf in the rigth ear, so the reverb is one-sided and panned to the left side to prevent the reverb from doubling up and sounding scrafty. Aside from that, I am happy with the way the album sounds. I am no sound egnineer, so I know the production could be better. There is much room for improvement, and that's okay. But the songs are good, and that'/s what ultimately matters. Let me know what you think, cheers. - NIkko 1 1 Quote
Henry Ng Tsz Kiu Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Hey @Waff, Welcome to the forum! Here you can find numerous talented young composers and you may take some time to look at them and review them. They are good!! I see that you post your album here. Oh gosh it's 1 hour and 42 minutes long! Most of the music posted here are around 10 minutes or so, since it will be quite difficult to review to a huge piece! I myself had posted my first post here with a 1 hour long piece and I have to wait long time for someone to review it! Next time when you post you can definitely split the pieces up! I actually find the music really cool! I love the spirit in it. I can never compose something like this and just say that I love it. However, I do think the singing not fit into it, since the music is really passionate while the singing is quite detached from it. Maybe a crazier and hotter singing style will fit into it more! Great job finishing your album! Henry Quote
Thatguy v2.0 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 You're only going to get honesty from me. Absolute honesty. BRUTAL, wholehearted, pure, 100%, honesty. Guitars are cool, drums could use some work, lyrics are okay as well. But man, your singing is horrendous. I would really encourage you to invest in your singing abilities. You have the heart, now let's see if you have the perseverance to improve. I can tell you've worked hard on your guitar skills, now I'd like to hear the same for the vocals. I know I'm not the greatest singer in the world, and most of the serious music I've done hasn't featured me as the lead vocalist. I'm come to the realization that I can work all day long on improving vocals, but I'll never be Layne Staley or Chris Cornell. That's okay, but at least I can hold a note. If I were you, and you were serious about making this project come to life, I would get a friend to sing or hire a singer, because the vocals are just that bad. It sounds like you're in your apartment or bedroom trying not to be loud as you sing, and it just comes across like oil and water when put with your music. Sorry if I'm being a dick, but I think you need to hear that the vocals need drastic improvement to be up to par versus me acting like your grandma telling you everything you do is perfect. This place isn't an echo chamber, and generally I try to be supportive and positive when listening to someone's music, but I think you need to hear this. Go ahead, listen to my trash Christmas song singing and ream me. But I'm continually trying to improve my voice; I just hope you do the same. Oh yeah, and welcome to YC lol. We're actually a nice bunch, I just have a tendency to be direct when it needs to be said. Hate me forever if you want, but if two years from now you post music here and it blows me away and you're all like "hahahhaa I told you I could sing you loser" to me, then I promise I'll be happy for you. 1 Quote
Waff Posted January 4, 2023 Author Posted January 4, 2023 Thanks to you both> I am aware that I am not much of a singer, but I figured that someone had to do it and I am just myself as the only member for Hand in the SKy. I may try to work on becoming a better singer, and when we have a band the album may be re-tracked or only some parts of the album may be re-tracked, including maybe the vocals. I will try to become a better singer, or get an actual singer. I am not sure yet. but I appreciate the input. CHeers - Nikko 1 3 Quote

When I first started a band, I kept looking for the next Robert Plant and could never find him. I eventually was like screw it, ill do it myself, and I learned a lot about singing. Keep improving, keep practicing, you may find yourself surprising even you with how good you could become. Its a lot of work, but worth it in the end. In the meantime, feel free to poke around the forums here, there are a lot of talented members here that are always willing to share some advice, and they don't charge a dime. The more you comment and interact with people, the more likely you'll receive some excellent feedback from unbiased folks only here to help. Thanks for not taking offense to my harsh words, hopefully they were motivation to keep working and improving your craft. That was the intent anyway. I dig the guitar stuff at least as a fellow guitarist. Quote
Omicronrg9 Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Hi Waff, welcome to the forums! What a LOT of material you have brought. I have little to point out that my mates right here haven't done already. I will just insist on the obvious: it's difficult that people be going to review every theme you have there with care and detail (specially when as far as I've seen, songs are independent enough to be reviewed separately). Just like Henry, been there, done that, with much less luck at the beginning I'd say. For that reason, the best choice is splitting, which isn't really effortful since you have done that in YT already. The vocals sure need work, a LOT of it, and that might take time but if you manage to get a better version of your work the effort will most probably pay off. Kind regards, Daniel–Ømicrón. Quote
