Cl13000 Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 (edited) Hello guys, a little question, please. In the UK, for composers who don't perform their own music, but have their music performed by artists in concert. The composer will get royalties from the MCPS or PRS for music, right ? But do you know if the composer also gets paid by the venue/concert organizer for performance rights, directly ? In other words does the composer have two distinct sources of income (paid by PRS for music/MCPS AND by the venue concert) ? And does he have to sign a contract with the venue/concert organizer ? Thanks Edited January 15, 2023 by Cl13000 Quote
Quinn Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 It has small print obviously (this depends on that...and so on) but basically PRS collects royalties on behalf of composers and performers for live performances; MCPS collects them on reproduction and distribution: sheet music, releases on CD, streaming, broadcast, downloads. You'd need to look at a particular contract if a venue organised wanted to pay a one-off fee. It happens. As I understood performers (including orchestras) get a one-off fee for a recording, then the royalty issue is handed over to MCPS. Things may have changed since I last looked at this somewhen around 2012, so best check. Quote
