Handel Messiah: For unto Us a Child Is Born, but with improved counterpoint

This is my elaboration on Handel's Messiah: For Unto Us a Child Is Born. I plan to finish the entire movement, but that will take some time to complete. In the meantime, what do you all think of it so far? Let me know and please critique my work!

Dear @Hcab5861,

I find the mixing of voice and strings very well. I really don't have any critical on it! I love the flow in it, so fluent!

Thanks for sharing!

P.S. Next time you just have to post one topic in one subforum! If you post two posts with the same content it will mislead others for having different contents!

Hi, this sound promising.... but I¡m not sure. Sometimes I hear an excess of ornaments (in the beginning). I can't help to go over Handel and, for sure, the original is stronger and rhythmic. Your version takes another direction and sounds more romantic, even "hollywood-ense" (I don't now now to say it in English).

I would take care of not mixing vocal complex parts with more ornaments in the strings.

There's nothing wrong with preferring the original version by Handel! I'm rewriting most of this movement since the counterpoint in it is very bare and leaves a lot to be desired (at least in comparison to Bach/Zelenka cantatas and masses.) I'm going more for the grandiose, Bach cantata-esque style with complex, imitative counterpoint and a healthy dose of symbolism. Here's an example of the style I'm going for:

Not an English native speaker as you prolly know but I'd say "Hollywood-esque".

Regarding the score itself I don't think I can be of use in this case, for the work of G. F. Händel remains —unfortunately— mostly unknown to me despite the prominence of the composer.

Kind regards,
Daniel–Ømicrón.

You're not a native speaker?? Man, I couldn't tell at all. You articulate yourself better than me!

Mate you should listen to me trying to articulate three phrases in a row, orally. That's one of my innermost weaknesses, not gonna lie, but thank you for the compliment!
