Alex Weidmann Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 (edited) Started writing this last night. Any thoughts so far? Or ideas on where I should go next? Once again I was inspired by Bear McCreary. This piece is based on an unusual chord progression he used, from G major to D flat major. Newer versions of the work will be posted lower down the thread. Henry Ng Tsz Kiu Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 Hi Alex, Your piece bascially focus on harmony until 1:30 when strings melody appear. I love your hamonic progression right now, it appears grand and drramy for me. Do you plan to have more variety of rhythm for different voices? They are uniform all over the excerpt. Also do you plan to add more melodic elements to the excerpt? Thanks for sharing, Henry 1 Quote
Alex Weidmann Posted March 4, 2023 Author Posted March 4, 2023 Many thanks for listening Henry. Will definitely try to add some more rhythmic and melodic interest. May add a B theme next on the alto flute, then some kind of development building up to a full orchestral climax. Haven't used much voice leading in my previous compositions; but I was trying to experiment with that here, as well as creating unexpected harmonic progressions. Quote
Alex Weidmann Posted March 8, 2023 Author Posted March 8, 2023 Made an extension of this piece today, by adding a B theme. I'm going to add some dynamic contrast next, then a recapitulation of the A theme to finish off the piece. Henry Ng Tsz Kiu Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Hi Alex, This becomes quite epic right now! I love how you add melodic elements to the music! The B theme is more melodic than the A theme for me. 1 Quote
