BipolarComposer Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 (edited) This is a piece I wrote a few years ago, to be part of a larger work, but I didn’t write the rest of it. The title translates to “prelude to sleep”. I wanted to capture those moments before you fall to sleep. So it’s a pretty minimal piece for strings, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, harp and celesta. Henry Ng Tsz Kiu Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Hi @BipolarComposer, I love the dorian mode in it and the celesta and harp do create a dreamy atmosphere, while the winds are luring oneself to sleep! The timbre is great at depicting the sleep mood! The disappearence of the instruments and the calando at end are great as wellThanks for sharing! Henry 1 Quote
Schorninator Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Hello BipolarComposer, a very beautiful piece with a very meditative mood. I like to play computer games and feel very much reminded of the ambience of Skyrim (music by Jeremy Soule). I have listened to it 5 times. I love this kind of music. Great work! PeterthePapercomPoser Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 I love your harmony in this piece! Your main thematic material is alternating on that 5th interval back and forth while you have the bass come in a 5th below that which creates just the most wonderful sonority and definitely among my favorite ways to make an interesting harmony that isn't just stereo-typically tonic-like. Is that harp and celesta? I love your usage of these instruments with the flute scalar runs! I have a topic I started that talks about this kind of harmony - Ever build harmony by stacking down? I think the piece also does a great job of describing a person who's on the brink of sleep, maybe struggling to fall or stay asleep. I can definitely hear that in there. Thanks for sharing! 1 Quote

Yes, it's harp and celesta. The harp is the time keeper, meant to symbolize a ticking clock. 1 Quote
Krisp Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 J'aime beaucoup ! Techniquement très abouti. Onirique, euphonique. Bravo ! Quote
