epii Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 Here's a tune I wrote on my ukulele. I'm a finger picker by nature on my guitar and found myself doing the same on my uke as you will notice. The uke on this is a virtual instrument. It started with simple uke chords and a melody. I then added the arrangement. I'm not real sure but I think the chord progression involves the so called "circle of fifths". That's about the only thing I remember from the one quarter college course that I took back in college. This piece was all made in the Sonar 8.5 piano roll using a mouse. I don't use a keyboard controller. Any comments would be appreciated. Henry Ng Tsz Kiu Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 Hi @epii, As always I like the timbre as it's very relaxing! I like how you use frequent changes of keys and harmonies to signify the playfulness on hopping! 6 hours ago, epii said: I'm not real sure but I think the chord progression involves the so called "circle of fifths". You do also modulate with a smooth baseline by having them getting down by semitones at the beginning, from A to D to G major! Again you modulate to Bb major at one point as the flat mediant key (yes you love to use flat mediant and flat submediant keys!) Thanks for sharing! Btw. is this a rework of your previous post here? I see in your previous post has the same name and the music is quite similar to it. Henry Quote
Thatguy v2.0 Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 hey man, cool piece. Reminds me of this Is this a revision? Quote
epii Posted March 18, 2023 Author Posted March 18, 2023 Henry, Yeah I probably changed some stuff from back when I first posted it. So I was right. It is the circle of fifths. I guess I do know a little bit of music theory after all. Thanks for your analysis and for noticing the bass line. I always give special attention to bass lines and it's nice to have someone notice one. -Rick Quote
epii Posted March 18, 2023 Author Posted March 18, 2023 Thatguy v2.0, It's the same piece. Wow, I didn't realize I first posted it back in 2018. I tend to review some of my older stuff from time to time and clean up the arrangements. This current post might have some minor changes, but if I made changes to the original post it would not have been recently. Oh, actually I just remembered that I did in fact raise the overall volume level a bit for this current post because I noticed the original levels had some headroom. I'm glad you like it. I'm currently reviewing some more of my older stuff and cleaning up some rough edges. I might be re-posting them here once I feel good about them. Thanks again! -Rick Quote
