This is actually based on a previous work of mine. It's an experiment that I didn't go too crazy with. I'm trying to give it a certain vibe, but haven't managed to do so. Anyways, enjoy!

Hi BC, let's listen.

The synth you used is quite pleasant. The abrupt pauses near the first minute don't convince me though. The second part of the theme is a bit empty but it is still enjoyable. It also may be difficult to reach the vibe you want when you are using less instruments. Right now and in my opinion of course, your work is a bit shadier and darker than the one whose vibe you want to mimic. What about adding more timbre richness on your next try?

Kind regards,
Daniel–Ømicrón.

Hey, Daniel! Thanks for the feedback! Truth be told, I've been making these my first scoring something on MuseScore and then editing them in Audacity (really most of the time just reversing them and playing around), and so I don't have a good understanding of how the final product is going to sound. (That is, for example, you mention the abrupt stop in the beginning. Well, in the original score, it made more sense to introduce a short stop in there. But here, as you noted, it doesn't.)

I'm planning on getting an actual DAW (technically Audacity is a DAW, I guess.) I already installed (basic) FL Studio but, by God, I haven't the slightest idea what to do hehe. (The UI is quite intimidating. How do I make a synth again?)

About "timbral richness," what do you mean by that? I feel like my lack of knowledge is showing hehe

Perhaps you should try Reaper first? It's "free" (according to the developers, NOT FREE, but it features all the functions in the endless eval. copy) and it features the most common DAW stuff. Making a midi channel is as simple as Ctrl + T. Regarding synths, do you know Daichi's "Synth1" VST? There's a 16k synths preset on the web and some others here and there in case you think you need new sounds to try.

Regarding the "timbral" richness, I just meant that your texture is now quite homogeneous. Basically you are trying to do the job of many instruments (in the piece you took as inspiration) using only one (or two?). While that could work, there's no need to restrain yourself to that number if it doesn't.

Kind regards,
Daniel–Ømicrón.

Hi @bored_comedy,

I agree with Daniel that the abrupt pauses are a little bit off. For me the second part's beginning from 1:00 to 1:40 the dynamic is a bit too soft. The ending can probably be more gradual instead of a sudden end for me.

I know nothing of DAW so I'm unhelpful on this issue. For the timberal richness you can probably add some other instruments to fill up the holes when the main soundtrack is having a short stop. Maybe this will make it more natural I guess.

Thanks for sharing!

I see! Thanks so much for the resource; I'll make sure to look into it. Also thanks for the feedback @Henry Ng Tsz Kiu!
