"Great job performing your own work with your friend! Very enjoyable performance and really enhance the lovely colour of the piece!!"

Ivan1791 was awarded the badge 'Star Performer' and 5 points.

Hey, I finally managed to compose something. This is the last piece I composed while being 22 years old. I wanted to portray distant memories of a nice conversation I would have with a dear friend on a quiet Spring night.

Let me know if you have any feedback! This is my best chamber music piece.

This is a very dreamy, relaxing piece, just what I needed right now, actually.  I like the modern yet fully tonal  harmonic palette.  The deceptive cadence at 63 is magical, as is the coda.  Very nicely done.  Nice performance too!

Hi @Ivan1791,

This is real beautiful stuff. I can't imagine you compose this within 7 hours only. It's very beautiful even though it's simple as you think. It may be simple in terms of the texture and length of the piece. But it's not simple at all. We can do all those complex things and still mess up the music. But you focus on the dreamy and longing beauty very well here!

Your use of harmonic colour is great and it's benighted (related to night, not foolish LoL) as usual. Clarinet is really well suited to your style, and you guys play this piece so well!

My favourite section is b.46 when you reach the harmonic far out point. My least favourite thing may be the ending since I feel like ending it on D major somewhat ruin the piece's overall colour even though it can appear hopeful. But this is very personal.

Thanks for sharing Ivan and I love to see you here both on YT and YC!!!!!!

Thank you, glad to see you found that cadence magical haha. This piece will probably played in a concert in Oklahoma later this year.

Yes, and I composed most of it in under 5 hours. Imagine what I will be creating this summer once I spend over 100 hours on a piece.

I agree, clarinet fits my style quite well.

True, some people have told me it felt a bit odd. I wanted to emulate a picardy third from the Baroque and give it a nicer ending.

Always here to bring some cool pieces to the table.

I mean, wow. I myself is a really slow composer and I can use several months to complete a single movement. Looks like I'm a not a good composer haha!

Pleas come more frequently and share more of your lovely pieces here! You have some pieces on YT not posted here but I think they definitely should be posted here since all of them are great and very "Ivanic" in their style!

just maybe not a particularly fast one.  Don't worry, it's not a race!

Haha if not a particularly slow one 🤑! I'm just racing with myself since I always find my progress is slow.

(Wait....why I turn every posts to a random today...)

Hola

There are many things I like about the play.
The first is part I in which the piano has a supporting role leaving the clarinet to draw the melody. Also the simple but effective harmony which then becomes more complicated.
The transition to the second part seems very natural to me.

I love the moods you created in this piece.  Some of it has a melancholic air that I find very nostalgic as it reminds me of some of my favorite RPG's!  I think these two bars were perhaps the biggest weaknesses in the piece:  image.png  The concert A in the Clarinet sounds really out of place imo.  And the piano LH has both C#'s and C naturals.  I guess the chord there would be something along the lines of an A augmented #9?  It's a really unusual chord and its functioning in a really unusual way.  In my opinion it doesn't do an adequate job of transitioning the piece back into the key of D minor, but that might just be my opinion.  Overall though, I thought this was a really emotionally rich piece!  Thanks for sharing.

Glad to hear so, I appreciate the comment.

Yes, for sure, I pick some inspiration from videogames. About that transition I know, it is kinda rought, but it might work if played properly, but the clarinetist played that really out of tune and not very subtle. I will ask some people who will perform it what they think about it and I will see if it needs reworking. Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

That's great news for sure! I myself has reduced time in the forum these few weeks due to intensive self studying and listening and exhaustion.
