Henry Ng Tsz Kiu Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Hey @veps, This one is a real funny one! I love the way you use the opening bars as the hook and motive throughout the music. For me maybe it will be quite a rush for breathing? I am not a bassoonist but I am afraid the breathing issue here. Also it may be harder to produce loud sound in its uppermost register since the timbre gets tense, if I don't misremember. Thanks for sharing! Henry Quote

ComposaBoi Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 This is such a nice short and simple piece there’s nothing to criticize. The structure is good, the motif is fun, and the piece as a whole flows very well and has good pacing. Since you say you’re a bassoonist, you should prepare a performance for us to enjoy 🙂 1 Quote
Quinn Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 A most interesting piece and I'd guess a challenge. The sort of thing you'd expect as a diploma piece at the Royal Academy. Highly energetic in the opening and close; lyrical in the Moderato episode (except for the big leaps). Nothing to comment on really except it's refreshing at times to get away from keys! It simply works and was a pleasure to listen to. Accomplished. Congratulations, and if you were playing it: marvellous. Quote
Nazariy Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 Really nice work! I liked it, especially the first section with all the rythmic and intervalic play, and the part strarting in b.46. The only thing is that the ending doesn't seem to me too convincing, but still works well. Contrats!! Quote
Luis Hernández Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 I love the bassoon. And this solo piece is very nice and interesting, it explores some tremendous but effective leaps. Quote

Aside from that, very well done and idiomatic to the instrument. I love hearing music from composers who play the instrument they are writing for. I'm sorry in advance for when I ask you loads of questions about the instrument. 😄 Thanks for sharing this. It's well crafted, and a joy to hear solo music on this site. Quote

It's always great to have one play their own instruments and show the possibility of that particular instrument instead of having one who doesn't play it and comment aimlessly!! Henry Quote
