Henry Ng Tsz Kiu Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Hi @HtWinsor, I think this bagatelle will be more idiomatic for a harpsichord since it's more galant in style. This one is filled with more common appreggios and scales for the right hand part, while the left hand it's usually broken chords, chord, alberti bass. Maybe you should go for something more melodic for the RH since it's quite commonplace here for the melody, and the harmony is not interesting enough. Moments like b.56 feels like you add them for longer time of the piece rather than for developing the materials presented, so you should (again) single out the characteristic of your opening theme and make use of them. Luis Hernández Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Well what happens to me with this is that, as many times (including things I do myself) there are parts that don't connect. On the one hand, the obsessive arpeggios..., which are so not because they appear constantly, but because they only contain notes of the chords, there is not much color. To me this technique as it is sometimes reminds me more of Philip Glass, especially in the 3 against 2 of the rhythm. Then the part from measure 10 does not fit with the above, especially where the chords and the bass in octaves from measure 14, sounds very "empty". At other times, as in the cadences, it takes on a big chord format that sounds like something out of romanticism. The result is no longer that one does not know what style the piece has, since that does not matter... but that there are very different parts that do not cohere. For example, if this were baroque-classicist, a perfect authentic cadenza at the end would be almost obligatory, which is missing. I think that with time you realize that you almost have to spend more effort in planning what you are going to compose, than writing it. Quote
Jan-Frederik Carl Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 (edited) Hi, I really enjoyed the flowing melody of the piece. On the other hand I must say regarding the constructive side, it seems a little simple. You work a lot with tonic-dominant and few non-chord tones, this can get a little tedious as the piece procedes. Greetings, Jan Edited August 30, 2023 by Jan-Frederik Carl Quote
Papageno Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 I love it! I can see and hear what your intentions were and they are great ideas. The execution in places could do with some work. Was there a particular style you were looking for? Quote
