miso Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Hello everyone, I am new to this forum... This is a piece called Noah's Song, referring to the Biblical character of the man who was lost in the great flood. Thanks for listening. chopin Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Welcome 🙂 I really like the effects you have going on here. Are you de-tuning the instrument to make these effects? My ears are good, but I'm not sure if they are that good lol. It could also be the samples that you are using are "slightly" out of tune. You seemed to have a good grasp of how to make good use of rhythm in your music to help accentuate your theme. And speaking of theme / melody, you have a really awesome one going on here. This music gives me mixed feelings of making peace with oneself, and feelings of uneasiness / finding oneself. I think this fits your description quite well. Toward the end of your piece at around 2:20, be careful with your db levels. There's slight tearing with the recording, you might want to fix that, this is a great recording otherwise. Quote
Henry Ng Tsz Kiu Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Hello @miso, I love the bass adding some sort of archaic feeling in it. I always enjoy this kind of sound effect as it appears soothing for me. Maybe the bass can suggest some sort of ships and waves like in a Barcarolle as well. Thx for sharing. Henry Quote
miso Posted August 4, 2023 Author Posted August 4, 2023 Hello chopin and Henry, Thank you very much for your kind feedback, which I really appreciate. @chopin, to be honest, I do not know for sure, how the sound was produced, as it is one of the pre-set sounds and unfortunately I am no expert in this. Yes, you are right, the recording needs a bit of cleaning. I am happy that those feelings came across as that was the intention. The story of Noah, a person overwhelmed by the great waters, who is looking to find some hope and understanding, is actually a wonderful allegory of life. @Henry Ng Tsz Kiu, I can relate to what you are saying. I imagine a great sea which is amorphous and flowing, so the sound is “round” and without clear borders. The bass represents the depths of the sea as the boat is rocking on the waves (and like you are saying, the sea is an ancient element juxtaposed to life of one person). The intention was to portray a symbol, not the exact story, which I think would require a different soundscape. Thanks again. Quote
Luis Hernández Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 One thing I liked is that there are parts where the melody is repeated in imitation. Quote
PeterthePapercomPoser Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Beautiful instrument you are using. It sounds like some kind of modulating filter that's going from lo-pass to hi-pass and back again. Your use of the instrument is very lucid and mindful - meditative even. The music and effect of the instrument is a very simple texture but achieves a great effect. There's no wild harmonic nor melodic gymnastics but it leaves a lasting impression and repeats with variety. Great job and thanks for sharing! 1 Quote
Toddskins Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Miso, Noah was not lost in the flood. He and his family were the only ones who were saved. The rest of the world was lost. Quote

miso Posted Monday at 02:24 PM Author Posted Monday at 02:24 PM @Toddskins I'm not saying he died. And I do think he was lost. Quote

I think you need to go back and read Genesis chapters 6 thru 9. Noah was the only man who was not lost (along with his family). Here's the pertinent paragraph: Gen 6:5 The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Gen 6:6 And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him to his heart. Gen 6:7 So the LORD said, "I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them." Gen 6:8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. Quote
Thatguy v2.0 Posted yesterday at 04:55 AM Posted yesterday at 04:55 AM What's funny to me is that when I first started listening, it sounded exactly like the Prelude no.1 I posted here a while back. It just started similar, and is unique and very different from my piece haha. Is this really electronic music? Is it because of a synth or something? Sounds like solo keyboard to me It's a beautiful melancholic piece, and I enjoyed this a lot. You should post more, it's only been a year and a half or so lol Nothing you mentioned about Noah sounded confusing to me. This is lovely, thanks for sharing Quote
