What Instrument Do You Wish You Could Play?

Cello. Cellocellocello. And piano.

Cello has the most beautiful sound out of all of the bowed string intruments to me. My hands are good for it and I also can read bass clef well. I might rent one sometime in the future and then buy one once I have the money and when I'm good enough.

So many aspiring cellists out there...the new Rostropovich might be among you!

I, myself, dreamed of learning the cello (I still learn) for many-many-many years...I hope your wishes come true and you enjoy a splendid violoncello journey!

I also want to learn cello, but I won't be able, at least not any time soon, as apparently I'm too old to start learning at school, so I'd have to pay for private lessons, which on top of my guitar and piano would be too much

I am learning at a music school and I'm 28. Of course, it sucks-being mediocre and being side to side with very talented and very younger cellists, but learning is the objective. I stick to this.

Its allways weird to me to see little kids playing very well. Because it seems like half of them don't even care about it when they grow up, or they never expand outside of what they were forced to learn.

Its weird... I mean, I'd like my children to be musical maybe... but forcing them makes for a different product I think.

Honestly, I think playing the Harp would pretty cool, it just sounds so nice when you get good at it.

Originally, when I was younger, I wanted to try the koto, oboe and harp. Fortunately enough, I was able to take lessons for oboe and an alternative for koto... But I quitted the koto thing after a while because I knew I'm just not right for it. So I guess I'm pretty lucky to try 2 out of 3 of the instruments I really want to try.

But as of now, I would like to play viola d'amore, oboe d'amore, English horn, bass oboe, heckelphone and other exotic instruments. :P

Varnon, I have taken piano lessons since I was 9 years old, but to be honest about it, from about 11-14 or so, I didn't like it much and just did it because my parants wanted me to. But now I think about what it would be like if they hadn't made me do it. Around 15 I started really loving music, so, if left to follow what I wanted at the time, I probably would have started at 9, quit at 11, and started again at 15, 4 years worse off for just doing what I wanted to. I am so so so so SOOOOOO glad that my parants made me stick with it because now, at 18, I have 9 years of experiance instead of 5.

Oh, and by the way, I would love the learn most instruments out there, but the ones I would be most interested in would be, in order:

1. Cello

2. Violin

3. Flute

And then everything else after that :P

They should adopt that instrument in the rock band.

Either French Horn or Bassoon :) . I currently play Sax, Violin and some piano, but I have no experience with brass.

I got the chance to pick up the french horn. It's a challenge, but it's sooooooo much fun.

Personally, I wish I could play oboe, cello, and bass. I have played an oboe before, but then someone moved my reed and it got all black and moldy. :(

Why doesn't anyone put viola as an instrument they want to play? :P

An Organ! A cathedral one! Wish I could buy myself a cathedral. I used to think that by taking up drums and percussion I could be the loudest musician around... I was wrong XD

Save all the money you can an buy yourself a ticket to Paris, go to listen (and FEEL) the St. Sulpice Organ, then Notre Dame and finally St. Eustache

then you could die happywinking.gif

Well to start I wish I could play Bassoon. I'm trying so hard to learn but bass clef is screwing me up and over!

Aside from that, I'd like some piano knowledge to help me in theory, composition and my future, and I'd like to play oboe, english horn and timpani.

You're weird.

I wish I was super rich. Then I'd have a cello, a violin, a viola, a harpsichord, a clavichord, a hurdy-gurdy, a virginal, a lute, a celesta, an ondes martenot, a theremin, all of the woodwinds, a gong, a consort of krumhorns, a personal gamelan orchestra, two jugongs, a giant basilica with a forty-billion rank organ, a personal carillon, and a property thoroughly seeded with earth drums.

For now, I'll set my wishes on cello, and my mad keyboard skilz.

AMEN.

But if it were two other instruments other than Bassoon, it would be Harp and Timpani on top of my Bassooning. :P

Flute/piano. HATE THE VIOLIN. :(

Well I like playing the violin but there's so much pretty solo piano music and there are lots of prominent flute solos in orchestral literature.

So I want to be a special and unique snowflake. :P

There aren't to many more I would like to play. I play the piano, the guitar, the organ, I'm vocally trained and I have taught myself the basic technique of the violin (though I don't officially count that as knowing how to play it). I think my first choice would be the cello, even before working on the violin more. Second would be drum set (I suck at it currently...though guitar hero and rock band are helping, lol) and third would probably go to trumpet, simply because its so functional as a solo instrument, but that is up in the air and #3 could go to french horn as well, I'm not entirely decided.

Oh, and its not exactly a new instrument, but definitely a new learning curve...I want to learn how to play the piano with my feet so I can play both parts of "Heart and Soul" by myself...among other duets ;)
