Alex Weidmann Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Hi all, Here's yet another re-orchestration for chamber orchestra! My original version was posted here a while back. Have re-voiced the strings to make them more lush, and add depth. Also added some extra counterpoint here and there, in the woodwind. I cut one section out altogether, and will probably need to make further cuts to reduce my running time to 5 minutes. Am struggling to decide where the axe should fall: so any suggestions would be very welcome! This is hot off the presses: so I haven't made a new score yet. Alex Weidmann Posted September 15, 2023 Author Posted September 15, 2023 Also, here is the original version, with a nice video of clouds! https://youtu.be/ron75kI6szU?si=g2RLM_vAp7JWEflD Quote
Henry Ng Tsz Kiu Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Hey Alex, I think the beginning really changes much comparing to your previous sections, as here it's more post-tonal. I almost fail to recognize all of the materials. It looks you add many new layers and materials, and the style is completely changed! For me I love the original version more but that's personal. Thx for updating your work continuously. Henry 1 Quote
Alex Weidmann Posted September 20, 2023 Author Posted September 20, 2023 (edited) Hi Henry, The harmonies are actually tri-tonal rather than post-tonal. Though I have noticed one bar where I accidentally combined an E natural with an E flat! Will remove that in the next draft. I prefer the original version too. With all these re-orchestrations I'm having to lose some of the orchestral and vocal colours that are not available in a chamber orchestra. The reason I'm making them, is because I have access to a real chamber orchestra now, and need to select some pieces to send them. Am trying to decide which of my compositions work best with the instruments available. Alex Edited September 20, 2023 by Alex Weidmann Typos Quote
