expert21 Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Good day, It has been a fair bit since I last posted something of my own creation on the forum. I've been working on all sorts of different things, discarding most of them, and keeping others, but this is the most recent work I've been working on, a Trio for Flute, Violin and Cello. It is my first attempt at something in sonata form, and my first dive into the world of chamber music. I would like some feedback, and some suggestions on what ive done so far. Luis Hernández Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 It sounds good and very sweet. However I think that from measure 21 onwards, when I think the intention is for the violin to take over the melody, it sounds very muffled among the other instruments. The higher pitch of the flute really turns off the violin. Maybe raising the latter an octave... or adjusting the dynamics. But if you like it that way... OK. 1 1 Quote
expert21 Posted October 6, 2023 Author Posted October 6, 2023 Hey Luis, Thanks for your review! You would be correct in thinking that my intention in b.21 onwards was for the violin to takeover the melody. I have taken your advice, as I concur that the violin sounds muffled, and have fiddled with the dynamics. Yours, Arjuna 1 Quote
PeterthePapercomPoser Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Nice job on the introduction of this piece which effectively starts on the dominant! You also effectively use dynamics to bring the flute melody into high relief in the beginning phrases. But then at 21 when the Violin has the melody it gets buried underneath the Cello and Flute. The crescendo in the introduction and the dynamics you use in the first full phrase of the A section are really effective at bringing the music to life, but later on (I guess because the piece isn't finished) you neglect those much needed dynamics to continue to properly balance the melodies and accompaniments of the composition. It is a really nice piece besides that. And I like your idea for the next theme which you haven't yet realized the accompaniments for. Also - it would be nice to have an updated score with the fragments trailing at the end of the piece included. What's keeping you from finishing this piece? Thanks for sharing this quaint trio! 1 Quote

Samuel_vangogh Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Hi! I think this is a very cute trio! My favourite part are the introduction b.45-46-47. I think that, to emphasize the melody in 21 (as it is mid register), maybe you can do a variation of the main theme with a larger register, not just a 6th, also, the flute could double the melody an octave higher (like b.24) so you break the accompaniment pattern! Overall, i liked it a lot!!!!!!😀 1 Quote
