Dear fellow composers,

I'm glad to share with you my new composition : "Racing to the stars", which "tells" the story of the incredible journey of an adventurous astronaut, from the launch pad, to the cosmic mysteries.

I believe I made some progress on keeping some thematic consistency throughout the piece : most of it is based on the simple motif 4 sixteenth note in a sequence, on the degrees I - II - III - V.

The end of the piece (starting from 6'00, and especially 6'40) is more exploratory as far as harmony is concerned. From 6'40, it is aimed at conveying a sense of doubt, interrogations, psychic desintegration or being lost, etc, before getting gradually resolved. I would be pleased to know how you feel about it.

Hi @EmotiveScores,

First it’s in C sharp minor so I like it LoL! The opening march is great at depicting the energy of flying to the sky.

For me the piece is really coherent as the mood and rhythm is maintained throughout the piece. This makes me enjoy contemplative moments like 1:22 and 3:11 and I want more of them! The orchestral colour is great and I love your use of celesta. The Eb clarinet in 5:10 is great too. I would love to have more contrasting themes since for me it’s too consistent throughout the whole piece, even the harmonic colour and modulation is great.

Thx for sharing! I enjoy this!

Hi @Henry Ng Tsz Kiu,

many thanks for taking the time to carefully listen to the music and write such a specific comment ! I'm really very grateful.

The beginning with C sharp minor was not my preferred one (although one of them for this music) but is the result of a compromise with the range of the instruments as the piece unfolds.

I'm not very confident on the use of orchestral percussions in general, especially the "main" ones (drums, cymbals) for highlighting the rythm. I may find easier to use pitched percussions to enrich the orchestral colours. So very glad you liked the orchestration (and it was a lot of experimentation work with the celesta, well, actually, with all the instruments from 6:00).

Happy you enjoyed the piece and found it coherent.

Building a piece with more contrasting themes is something I will probably think about in the future, based on the "confidence gained" with this one, thanks for your feedback.

and thanks for your comments on the YT video ! 😉

@Kvothe, all the music was rendered with NotePerformer.
