Saxophone

Recommended Posts

Hello guys. I Made a saxophone based piece. Its a little rough araund the edges and probably contains some unnecessery notes, but i consider it finished 😄

I also made piano version which is shorter and simpler, but i feel like it has less mistakes.

Considering it has same percussion line and very similar bass line it turned out to be quite different.

Electronic music with horn sections is where it's at. What a banger 😄

It does kind of linger though, what about a contrasting section on a few different chords? The cut out at about 2 min. was a nice change, but still the same harmony, right? The part at 2:45 to the end felt unfinished and unnecessary to me. Maybe just adding a bit of contrast with the chords would be good enough. If you like that end section, maybe just cut it shorter?

I know you said this was done, so this would be for future compositions. Plus it's just my opinion haha.

Awesome track! You seem to have a flair for sax writing, do you play?

Thanks for sharing 👍

edit: heree should be music fragment but i dont know howw to place it higher so its on bottom XD

Would this be example of contrasting section? or you mean something different?

I guess it could use some changes since its loopy, but i wanted to keep it simple to have anchor that i can build upon and dont float away too much.

Well, the ending is actually my favourite part 🙂 and i wanted it that way. I lied the idea but i was struggling with it and couldnt quite make it righ.

And sadly i cant play any instrument 😪But i'm planning to buy keyboard :D

Have a nice day 🙂

Sounds like you're varying up the melody some more? I think you do a fine job of that already, you have a lot of variation within it. I meant more with the rhythm, or tempo, or harmony, or range, or dynamics, etc. etc.

For instance, your bass line is E then D, right? So it's in E minor, then you have the 7th (D), then you go back and repeat. What if you tried going through the other notes of the scale for a while? Even just swaying back and forth on C and B for a bit would sound cool, and it's a cadence ending on the B for your E minor loop again. AND, if the B chord is major, you get to go with the chord for your sax melodies to fit it, giving your melody variation from a different angle.

What if you dropped that static bass note out for a bit? Less is more. Have just the drums and that killer bass keep the momentum, maybe the sax leads are toned down. Idk, I'm just spewing off ideas from the top of my head.

You'll hear static harmony in rap music, but they have lyrics to focus on. With instrumental music, sometimes you have to take extra measures to maintain interest in looped music. Just my opinion though, I'm just some dude on the internet.

Gotta say I'm really loving the party vibe, the saxophone goes hard 🎷 I think I'm feeling similar to Thatguy regarding the ending though, like it's a bit unfinished or out of place, maybe going back to a few already established sounds could help tie the knot there. At the start I also feel like something could help the rhythm a bit - not too intensive, since the drums come in really nice 🙂
