Turmoil

Hello all! I come today with a little piano piece I have been working on composing over the past hour or so in FL Studio. I started out with one idea, but it quickly turned into this somber piece that I feel evokes an inner turmoil. I used the free LABS Glass Piano as my VST.

It's nothing super complex, but I listened to it back after working for a bit and was surprised how much the emotion came through to me. I recently started a new job, so time for my hobbies has been limited and this is the first time I've really been able to sit down and compose for a bit! So it was nice to get back to working on pieces!

To me this piece exudes a relaxed mystery or melancholy rather than turmoil.  It doesn't sound full of anguish or angst like I'd expect turmoil to sound like.  Also, the texture throughout the whole piece is pretty thin and sounds very easy to play.  Some composers err on the side of writing piano pieces that are too thick and difficult and in those cases the thickness of their texture and chords can become the most salient feature of their music (which isn't very good to listen to).  But your piece errs on the opposite side where the piece sounds very basic and empty most of the time which makes it sound very calm and nonchalant.  Maybe that's why it doesn't sound like turmoil to me?  Thanks for sharing!

Man, I really hate to hear this. Sorry, but to me this SOUNDED like you worked on it for only an hour. I like you, and I like your style, but I wish you would take the time to consider that this is a great idea, but it doesn't seem like a completed work. It sounds like an improvisation, and you added other instruments when you heard the playback and thought it would sound good, and it does, and I like it... but it just feels cheap in a way. Yeah you have cool ideas, but I'd hate to see you fall into the trap of showing your music off when it's only a sketch of what it could be. 

I don't want to sound harsh or anything, but I guess it's just a trigger when I hear someone's music and they like to mention the quick time it took for them to write it. It's a good start, but are there any plans to elaborate on it? 

You mentioned your new job, and to be fair, I used to work bullshit jobs, and music was my only reprieve. I get it. I guess I'm just challenging you in a way?

Idk, like I said, I dig your style. I just prefer when someone tells me, "after months of blood sweat and tears, I figured out how to finish this beautiful work of art I've been brewing".
