Minuet in B Major

Recommended Posts

I don’t really like classical-period music and I like this, so I suppose it is good

I find really interesting the use of “sonata form” in this piece. It is quite a complex form to have a minuet and it is not usual. A nice way to experiment with classical period stuff. However, it is not completely sonata form, as the themes are all in the same key, and you stay in B major throughout the whole piece. I believe that by modulating and making this a proper sonata form piece, following a traditional key scheme, the piece will retain the listener’s interest better (though this piece is already very good at that), it will add complexity, it would showcase harmonic skills that are not really showcased in classical period, and it could be analysed as a proper sonata form piece, which would attract more discussion and appreciation to your work. And even if you don’t feel like making the key scheme a sonata one, maybe another idea to gain complexity could be to modulate to the dominant in the developmental section, to have an elevated sense of resolution at the recapitulation of the first theme

Some things I would have changed (though it is very personal and it is fine how it is):

In bars 69 and 85 I would maintain the suspension for two beats to resolve in the third and put the second note of the left hand on the second beat

For motivical compactness, I would change the descending figure of bar 57 to the one of bar 8

Thanks for posting this piece on the forum
